Bengal Cricketer's Contribution to East Zone's Duleep Triumph

East Zone won its maiden Duleep Trophy title in 2011-12 with six Bengal cricketers in the squad – Wriddhiman Saha, Anushtup Majudar, Ashok Dinda, Sreevats Goswami, Lakshmi Ratan Shukla and Shami Ahmed. East Zone beat West Zone at Valsad, North Zone at Delhi and Central Zone in the Final at Indore. Limelight in the tournament, particularly in the Final match, was stolen by the Bengal cricketers.

In the final, Wriddhiman Saha scored a brilliant 170, ably supported by Anustup Majumdar's 52. In response, Central Zone was practically demolished by the two Bengal pace bowlers Shami Ahmed and Ashok Dinda in both innings, who turned out with match figures of 8 for 123 and 7 for 123 respectively, giving the East Zone victory by an innings and 20 runs.

Wriddhiman Saha topped the batting averages with 147.00, scoring 294 runs in the two matches that he played. Anushtup Majumdar followed with an average of 116.00, scoring 394 runs in the three matches.

Shami Ahmed (15.37) and Ashok Dinda (18.77) were at the top in terms of the bowling averages.
