We were unlucky: Sairaj
19th December 2016
Bengal coach, Sairaj Bahutule, who was today in town for a review meeting regarding Bengal’s performance in the Ranji Trophy this season, is of the view that the team’s early exit from the tournament was nothing but just a matter of bad luck.
“It was a matter of bad luck. We started well this season, but thing didn’t work for us till the end and we could not go through to the next round. Over that, cancellation of the match against Gujarat also played a role in way of our exiting from the tournament. Had the match been played, the entire scenario could have been different,” said Coach Sairaj Bahutule.
Asked about the inconsistency of the players, who got starts but couldn’t continue, he said, “It is a part of the game. Things are always not in your hand; still you need to deal with them. This was a young team. They will gain experience from these situations.
“An honest analysis of our performance will show, our batsmen played well in most of the matches, excepting few, which hurt us. Now our focus is not to repeat on the mistakes, and do well in the tournaments to come,” he said.
Pragyan Ojha who had a humble performance this season was given a clean sheet by the coach, who said, “He is a quality spinner and should be the strength of our team. This time we played most of the match on green top wicket, which supported seamers, so it was difficult for him get wickets there. Still, Ojha bowled well in the tournament overall. ”
