Abhishek in Prasenjit out
24th November 2016
Despite making a positive start to this Ranji season, Bengal now finds them in a tough situation, being placed fifth in the points table with only three matches remaining. The next match they play against Mumbai in Nagpur, commencing November 29, will be very crucial for their further progressing in the tournament.
Understanding the importance of the match, the Bengal think tank today sat for a final time at the CAB office, discussing the best combination possible.
However, only one change was made.Uncapped Abhishek Kumar Raman was put in to the squad and Prasenjit Das was pulled out.
Following a brilliant performance in the C. K. Nayudu tournament with a couple of centuries and half- centuries, he got the chance. He is also the under 23 captain for Bengal.
“I worked hard for this day. I know I have pressure but still I am enjoying it. I will have to do well in the match against Mumbai. It will be a tough game for us, where we need to do well,” said Abhishek.
“This match is very important for us. We need to play well against Mumbai. They are one of the best sides in the tournament. Abhishek played well in the C. K. Nayudu tournament and deserves this chance. We will make him open the innings while Sayan will come down the order. He has a bit of experience, so he will be able to handle the change,” said Bengal team selector Arup Bhattacharya.
Asked about the bowling, “The bowlers are doing well. In Nagpur if we get a turning track, we will then think of playing Ritwik Roy Chowdhury. But if is in favour of the seamers no such change will be made," he said.
