Lahil claim bengal
22nd November 2016
The wicket in Lahil continued to spew venom, as Bengal failed to pull a win back against Baroda in Group-A Ranji Trophy match today. Chasing a target of 154 runs, Bengal was shot out at 133 in 46 overs.
Resuming the day, Bengal bowlers had to wrap up the opposition innings as early as possible. But Baroda made sure that they gave a fight, managing to crawl to 133 all out, giving Bengal to chase a target of 154 runs.
Coming out to bat, Bengal started losing wickets at regular interval, and was soon reduced to 40 for 4. Skipper Manoj Tiwary (39) however tried to steady inning but was sent back soon by S. Mangalorkar reducing Bengal further to 94 for 5.
Thereafter, it was on Shreevats Goshwami and the tailenders to bring Bengal home. Shreevats gave a try remaining unbeaten at 26, but with wickets falling at the other end, hardly anything was possible. Bengal’s innings finally came to an end with the last man, Mukesh Kumar run out for 1.
A. Sheth was adjudged man of the match for taking 10 wickets in the match. This was also the first win for Baroda this season.
Bengal will play their next match against Mumbai in Nagpur starting November 29.
