23 wickets fall on Day-I at Lahil
21st November 2016
The Lahil wicket in Rohtak lived up to its reputation with 23 wickets falling on the first day in a Group-A Ranji Trophy tie between Bengal and Baroda. Baroda finished the day 63 for 3 in their second innings, leading Bengal by 84 runs.
At stumps Kedar Devdhar (34) and A. Brambhaat (7) were batting for Baroda.
Electing to field, Bengal seemed to be dominating the game when they bowled out Baroda at 97 within 30.4 overs, with the experienced Ashoke Dinda taking six wickets. He was backed by Mukesh Kumar’s 3 for 39.
When Bengal came out to bat wickets fell like house of cards being reduced to 36 for 5. The only batsman who gave a fight back was Sudip Chatterjee (37) before he was also sent back by Irfan Pathan reducing Bengal to 76 for 9. The last wicket to fall was Amit Kuila (0) as Baroda polished off Bengal’s innings in 27.4 overs.
A. Sheth remained the pick of the bowlers for Baroda taking 7 wickets for 36 runs.
“It was a tough pitch to bat on. But we should have done better, specially after bowling so well. Ashoke (Dinda) really led the bowling from the front. Overall it was not a very good day for us,” said Skipper Manoj Tiwary
Asked about tomorrow's plans, he said, “We have everything to play for. If we can get them out early within a low total then anything is possible,” he concluded.
