Bowlers, Soumyadip (96*) put Bengal in
commanding position in Cooch Behar Trophy

A brilliant bowling performance followed by a dominant batting display helped Bengal Under-19 team end Day 1 in a commanding position against Nagaland in the Cooch Behar Trophy match in Sovima on Thursday.
Put into bat, Nagaland, who were in a spot of bother at 19/7 inside 13 overs, were bundled out for just 40 in their first innings in 19.2 overs.
Rohit (3-8), debutant Shivamm Bharati (3-16), Jeet Thakur (2-1) and Debangshu Pakhira (1-1) were superb with the ball for Bengal.
In reply, riding on Paschim Medinipur boy and debutant Soumyadip Manna’s brilliant unbeaten 96 off 127 balls, Bengal were 258/6 at the end of the opening day with a lead of 218 runs.
Wicket-keeper batsman Soumyadip was well supported in the other end by another debutant Aditya Roy (64).
