Time for women to shine in Bengal Pro T20 League

It’s the beginning of a new era for women’s cricket in Bengal as the inaugural edition of the franchise-based Bengal Pro T20 League is set to take centre-stage with two back-to-back double header clashes lined-up at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus, on Wednesday.
The opening day promises to be an enthralling one with Servotech Siliguri Strikers taking on Harbour Diamonds in the first match, followed by Shrachi Rarh Tigers facing Murshidabad Kueens in the second match.
The other four teams in the league - Rashmi Medinipur Wizards, Adamas Howrah Warriors, Lux-Shyam Kolkata Tigers and Sobisco Smashers Malda - will take the field on Thursday.
The eight franchises will clash against each other once in the league phase, with each team playing a total of seven league matches.
Following the league phase, the top four teams will progress into the semifinals, where the top-ranked team will face the fourth-ranked team while the second-placed team will take on the third-placed team. The winners from both the semifinal clashes will face each other in the final to be played on June 28.
Led by eight marquee players, the teams comprising of both youth and experience will aim to give their all to showcase their mettle and come into reckoning for the next editions of the Women's Premier League and primarily the Indian national team.
We take a look into the eight teams who will fight it out to claim the Bengal Pro T20 League title in the inaugural season.
Shrachi Rarh Tigers: The team will be led by senior Bengal wicket-keeper batter Ankita Chakraborty with Ananya Mitra as their head coach. Parna Paul has been roped in as the marquee player. The experience of senior Bengal players Sujata Dey and Dipa Das will add a lot to the team in both the batting and bowling departments. The talented Priyanka Kurmi, Sinjini Chakraborty, and Chandrima Biswas will also be key to their chances.
Adamas Howrah Warriors: The team will be led by star player Dhara Gujjar, with Paramita Roy as the head coach. Besides leading the side, Dhara has also been roped in as the marquee player for the side. Senior Bengal players Arunima Bandhopadhyay, Shrabani Paul, and Sushmita Ganguly, considering their experience, will be key to the team's chances both with the bat and ball.
Servotech Siliguri Strikers: The franchise will be led by Priyanka Bala, who is also the marquee player for the team with Arpita Ghosh as the head coach. Star batter Bristi Maji, all-rounders Preeti Mondal and Jahnavi Raj Paswan with Bengal Senior experience in their bag will be vital for the Siliguri Strikers in the league.
Lux-Shyam Kolkata Tigers: The team will be led by star Bengal player Mita Paul, who will also serve as the marquee signing of the team. Charanjit Singh Matharu has been roped in as the head coach. All-rounders Tithi Das, Ananya Halder and Aruna Burman with experience from the Senior Bengal team will add more power to Kolkata Tigers' chances in the tournament. The young Mamta Kisku and Preyoshi Aich will be the ones to watch out for.
Sobisco Smashers Malda: The team will be led by star Bengal player Hrishita Basu, who is also roped in as the marquee player for the side. The team is coached by Dipali Shaw. The experience of Senior Bengal players Riya Goswami, Iti Sarkar and Piyali Ghosh will be crucial for the Malda team in the league. The trio's all-round skills will come in handy in the tournament.
Rashmi Medinipur Wizards: The team will be led by the talented Kashish Agarwal with Jayanta Ghosh Dastider as the head coach. Kashish has also been roped in as the marquee player for the team. Senior Bengal players Ankita Burman, Monika Mal and Dyuti Pal with their all-round skills and experience, will be crucial to Medinipur Wizards' chances in the tournament.
Murshidabad Kueens: The Kueens will be led by the talented Prativa Rana with the experienced Probal Dutta as the head coach. The franchise will rely heavily on the Bengal Senior trio of Priyanka Sarkar, Sneha Gupta, Shrayoshi Aich. Their all-round skills and experience will come in handy in the tournament against the other quality sides.
Harbour Diamonds: The Harbour Diamonds will be led by the talented Sukanya Parida with Shib Sagar Singh as the head coach. Sukanya has also been roped in as the marquee player for the side. Senior Bengal players Sansthita Biswas, Jhumia Khatun and Mouli Mondal will be the ones to watch out for consideration their experience and skills with both bat and ball.
