Kerala crawl to 163 for four
13th October 2016
Kerala recovered from early setback to finish Day-I at 163 for 4 against Himachal Pradesh in their second Ranji trophy match of the season here at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Earlier, Himachal Pradesh won the toss and elected to field and took full advantage of the dampness in the wicket to reduce Kerala 17 for 2.
As the day progressed, Kerala rode Sanju Samson’s 47 and Sachin Baby’s unbeaten 52 to crawl to 163 from 73 overs. BJ Thakkar (run out on 14), J Sexena (2) and skipper PR Pream (14) returned cheaply to put Himachal Pradesh on the top. But they failed to capitalize on the breakthrough, as Kerala grind it out to finish the day. At stump giving Baby company is VA Jagdeesh on 24.
For Himachal, R. Dhawan, S. Nirmohi, and G. Singh bagged a wicket each as they failed to capitalize on the early inroads into the Kerala top order. Both the team have come with a draw in their opening game.
