Bengal 77/2 in a massive chase against Kerala in Ranji match

Chasing a mammoth 449 runs to win, Bengal were 77/2 at the end of the third and penultimate day's play against Kerala in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at the St. Xavier's College Ground in Trivandrum, on Sunday.
At stumps, Abhimanyu Easwaran (33 not out) remained unbeaten at the crease with the visitors needing 372 runs more to script a memorable victory on the fourth and final day.
Earlier, Bengal managed to post 180 in their first innings, in reply to Kerala's total of 363.
Kerala, in their second innings, scored 265/6 decl. to hand a massive target to the visitors.
Resuming the day from overnight score of 172/8, Bengal managed to add 8 runs in the morning before the final two wickets fell.
Jalaj Saxena was superb with the ball bagging 9 for 68.
Kerala, coming in to bat in the second innings with a big lead in their bag, got off to a good start, thanks to Rohan S Kunnummal (51) and Saxena (37).
After their dismissal, centurions from first innings, Sachin Baby (51) and Akshay Chandran (36) batted positively while Shreyas Gopal (50 not out) also chipped in with useful runs to take the lead well past 400.
For Bengal, Shahbaz Ahmed (3-80) was impressive with the ball while Ankit Mishra, Karan Lal and debutant Ranjot Singh Khaira bagged a wicket each.
Chasing a massive target, the visitors lost opener Ranjot (2) early.
However, Easwaran and Sudip Kumar Gharami (31) held the innings firmly with a fine 50-run stand, but Gharami departed in the dying minutes of the day to put more pressure on Bengal.
