Bengal under pressure at 172/8 against Kerala in Ranji match

Bengal were reduced to 172/8 at stumps on Day 2 in their first innings against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at the St. Xavier's College Ground in Trivandrum, on Saturday.
At the end of the second day, Karan Lal (27) and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (9) remained unbeaten at the crease.
Jalaj Saxena was superb with the ball for Kerala bagging 7 for 67.
Earlier, Kerala posted 363 in their first innings, thanks to Sachin Baby (124) and Akshay Chandran (106).
For Bengal, Shahbaz Ahmed (4-73), Ankit Mishra (3-84), Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (1-53), Akash Deep (1-65) and Karan Lal (1-52) were impressive with the ball.
Earlier, resuming the day from 265/4, Sachin and Akshay managed to add 26 runs in the morning before Sachin fell to Lal.
From there on, Bengal chipped in with wickets at regular intervals to not let the home side dominate.
Basil Thampi (20) and Basil NP (16) added vital runs at the end to help team cross 350.
In reply, Bengal got off to a positive start but losing debutant opener Ranjot Singh Khaira (6) in the ninth over with 43 on the board.
From there on, Easwaran and Sudip Kumar Gharami (33) added 64 runs for the second wicket to take team past the 100-run mark.
Against the run of play, Jalaj Saxena gave the hosts the much-needed breakthrough dismissing set batter Easwaran to reduce Bengal to 107/2.
Gharami who got off to a good start too departed followed by Abishek Porel (2), Anustup Majumdar (0) and Manoj Tiwary (6), Shahbaz (8), Akash Deep (4) to put the visitors in trouble at 151/8.
