Bengal reduce Andhra to 119/3 after posting 409 on Day 2 in Ranji Trophy
6th January 2024
Akash Deep, Mohammad Kaif and Pradipta Pramanik bagged a wicket each as Bengal reduced Andhra Pradesh to 119/3 in the first innings at stumps on Day 2 in their opening Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
The home side were still 290 runs behind after Bengal managed to post a commendable total of 409 in their first innings.
Earlier, resuming the day from overnight score of 289/4, Bengal lost night-watchman Kaif early.
However, skipper Manoj Tiwary (32) and Abishek Porel (70) played sensibly to add some vital runs for the visitors.
After the dismissal of Manoj, Abishek partnered with Karan Lal (19) to help team cross the 350-run barrier.
Despite wickets at the other end, Abishek played his natural game as Bengal crossed the 400-run mark, thanks to some counter-attacking play by the wicket-keeper batsman.
For Andhra, Lalith Mohan was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 134.
In reply, D B Prashanth Kumar (41) and C R Gnaneshwar (33) gave Andhra a fine start. After their dismissal, S K Rasheed (32) and Hanuma Vihari (6 not out) held the innings firmly.
Late in the day, Akash Deep dismissed Rasheed as stumps were called on Day 2.
