31st May 2017
The Mariners thumped Tapan Memorial by 7 wickets to win the Senior Knockout Tournament here today.
Mohun Bagan won the toss and elected to field, a move that paid rich dividends. Later Bagan skipper Subhomoy Das said "It was a good toss to win. The wicket was damp and the ball did a few tricks".
Veteran Ashok Dinda bowled with fire and passion picking up five wickets for just 28runs as Tapan collapsed to 136 runs all out in 45.3 overs.
"I felt good that I bowled well. It is always a fine feeling to contribute in a win," Dinda said.
In reply Mohun Bagan got a little scare but Wriddhiman Saha's 44 runs of 32 balls made sure that they reached home and dry in just 21 overs. "This was a good trophy to win after losing the derby. And to play a part in this win makes the winning more meaningful," Wriddhi said.
