Former Bengal cricketer Tapan Jyoti Banerjee no more

Former Bengal cricketer and selector Tapan Jyoti Banerjee breathed his last at a city hospital today. He was 73.
Born in Kanpur on June 15, 1943, this all-rounder played 18 first class matches scoring 217 runs at an average of 15.50. He also bagged 47 wickets. His first class career spanned almost two decades from 1965-66 to 1982/83.
Besides being a player he was also a member of the working committee and sub-working committee of Cricket Association of Bengal from 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 respectively.
In addition, he was the chairman of Junior selection sub-committee during the period 1989 to 1992 and the coach of Bengal U 22 men and senior women team.
CAB Jt Secretary Avishek Dalmiya expressed grief saying, "We have lost a fine human being and a great servant of cricket. He served Bengal cricket in various capacity. Our heartfelt condolence to his family and loved ones."
