Bengal down Goa by 8 wickets, stays on course for Vijay Hazare knockouts

Riding on a dominant all-round show, Bengal took a step closer to the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockouts with a superb eight-wicket victory over Goa in their Group E clash in Mumbai on Sunday.
With four wins from five games, Bengal are currently on top of Group E with 16 points. A win against Punjab in their final Group match on Tuesday will help them seal a place in the knockouts.
Earlier, put into bat, Goa looked jittery and were in trouble at 32/5 inside 9 overs. However, Deepraj Gaonkar (34 not out) held the innings at one end but wickets at the other end put them in a spot of bother.
Losing wickets at regular intervals, Goa were bundled out for just 106 in 28.4 overs.
For Bengal, Akash Deep (3-6), Mohammad Kaif (3-39), Karan Lal (2-3) and Shahbaz Ahmed (2-30) were superb with the ball.
In reply, Bengal batters got the job done comfortably, guiding team to 111/2 in 22.3 overs. Shakir Habib Gandhi (48) and Abishek Porel (20) impressed while skipper Sudip Kumar Gharami (15 not out) and Shahbaz (21 not out) remained unbeaten.
