Dominant Bengal outclass Nagaland by 9 wickets in Vijay Hazare opener
23rd November 2023
Bengal began their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign on a rousing note with a thumping nine-wicket victory over Nagaland in the Group E clash in Mumbai on Thursday.
Put into bat, Nagaland looked jittery right from the start.
Unable to handle the red-hot Bengal bowlers, Nagaland lost wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for just 139 in 47 overs. Sumit Kumar top-scored with 36 runs.
For Bengal, Saksham Chaudhary (3-23), who made his debut in the 50-over format, was superb with the ball. Karan Lal (2-18), Akash Deep (2-24), Ishan Porel (1-26), Shahbaz Ahmed (1-24) and Pradipta Pramanik (1-24) also impressed.
In reply, Bengal lost wicket-keeper batsman Abhishek Porel (14) cheaply after the start.
But from there on, skipper Sudip Kumar Gharami (62 not out) and Abhimanyu Easwaran (57 not out) batted superbly to help Bengal chase down the total comfortably, scoring 143/1 in 18.5 overs.
