Raina makes it for Gujarat
21th April 2017
Riding an excellent 84 off 46 balls by skipper Suresh Raina, Gujarat Lion's beat Kolkata knight Riders by 4 wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match today here in the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Put to bat, KKR had set a challenging 188 for 5 in 20 overs, which was comfortably chased down by the visitors in 18.2 overs with 4 wickets in hand.
Earlier, Robin Uthappa cracked a brilliant half-century, while makeshift opener Sunil Narine struck a quickfire 42 off 17 balls at the top to guide KKR to 187 for five.
Uthappa made 72 off 48 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes to anchor the KKR innings after Narine's 42 off 17 balls played a short little cameo at the top of the table.
Besides, skipper Gautam Gambhir made 33 off 28 balls while Manish Pandey (24) and Yusuf Pathan (11 not out) also contributed to the total.
Coming out to bat, McCullum (33) and Aaron Finch (31) stitched 42 runs off just 21 balls for their opening stand to get Gujarat Lions' chase off to a flier.
Later, skipper Raina hammered four sixes and nine boundaries in his innings of 84, before getting out to Kuldeep Yadav, reducing Gujarat to 180 for 6. But he made sure the fate of the match was sealed.
The match finally came to an end with Ravindra Jadeja and James Faulkner batting at the crease with 19 and 4 runs respectively.
Among the bowlers, while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Kuldeep Yadav topped the bowling of the Knight’s bagging two wickets each, Suresh Raina remained the most economical bowler in the match.
