Inter District Women's U-14 Zonal one-day meet begins in Burdwan

14th March 2023
In a major boost for the young women cricketers in Bengal, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has begun a one of its kind Inter District Women's Under-14 Zonal One-Day tournament in Burdwan.
The tournament, comprising four teams - North Zone, South Zone, East Zone and West Zone, will not only increase the competition among the young women cricketers but also help create a bigger talent pool for the senior team.
"We are committed to overall development of cricket. And women's cricket is an integral part of that development. It is with this in mind that this new tournament has been curated by me to promote young talents, give them a competitive experience and create a big pool of talent," said CAB President Snehasish Ganguly.
The tournament, which will be a 45 over-a-side affair, will see the four teams facing each other once in the league phase beginning on Tuesday, with the final being played on March 21 between the top two teams from league phase.
In the West Zone team, Debjani Das (Hooghly), Laxmi Mahato (Manbhum), Moni Roy (Bankura) and Nikisha Hazra (Burdwan) make a strong side.
In the North Zone team, Shinjini Sarkar (Siliguri), Sikha Sil (Jalpaiguri), Dhruti Roy (Coochbehar) and Anjaly Barman (Dakshin Dinajpur) make a competitive side.
In the South Zone side, the likes of Ipsita Mondal (Midnapore), Priyanka Golder (North 24-PGS), Sanjukta Sarkar (South 24-PGS) and Neha Shaw (Howrah) make them one of the favorites for the tournament.
While in the East Zone side, Riya Basak (Nadia), Shreyosi Ghosh (Birbhum), Reekita Bose (Murshidabad) and Meghna Mandal (Malda) will pose a tough challenge to other teams.
