Akash Deep (5-42) hands Bengal vital 1st innings
lead against Madhya Pradesh in Ranji semifinals

A sensational bowling performance by Akash Deep (5-42) helped Bengal bundled out Madhya Pradesh for just 170 and take a massive first innings lead in the Ranji Trophy semifinals at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Friday.
After posting 438 in their first innings, Bengal bowled out the defending champions for a low score, which handed the visitors a vital first innings lead, also giving them the edge over their opponents if the match ends in a draw.
Bengal, in their second innings, were 59/2 at stumps on Day 3 with Sudip Kumar Gharami (12) and Anustup Majumdar (9) at the crease with their team enjoying a massive lead of 327 runs.
Earlier, resuming the day from overnight score of 56/2, Saransh Jain (65) and Anubhav Agarwal (5) managed to add just three runs in the morning before Anubhav fell to Mukesh Kumar.
Rajat Patidar too departed without scoring after being cleaned up by Akash Deep to put the home side in trouble at 60/4.
Aditya Shrivastava (7) and Venkatesh Iyer (7) also didn’t trouble the scorers as MP found themselves in a spot of bother at 101/6.
Saransh and Shubham Sharma (44 not out) managed to add a valuable 54-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
But after the dismissal of the opener, MP batters surrendered as Bengal bowlers pounced on the opportunity to bowl them out in the 79th over.
Besides Akash Deep, Shahbaz Ahmed (2-30), Ishan Porel (1-22) and Mukesh (1-39) also impressed with the ball for Bengal.
Bengal, in their second innings, started well but lost both openers Karan Lal (19) and Abhimanyu Easwaran (17) cheaply.
Incoming batters Gharami and Anustup kept their cool to remain unbeaten at the end of day’s play.
