Anustup (120), Gharami (112) power Bengal to 307/4
against Madhya Pradesh in Ranji semis

8th February 2023
In one of the most dominant batting display, Anustup Majumdar (120) and Sudip Kumar Gharami (112) slammed centuries each to put Bengal in a commanding position at 307/4 at stumps on Day 1 against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy semifinals at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Wednesday.
In his 206-ball innings, Anustup smashed 13 fours and 1 six, while Gharami in his 213-ball knock, struck 12 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Piling more misery on the home side, the duo also stitched together a mammoth 241-run partnership for the third wicket to put the visitors in a strong position.
Earlier opting to bat, Abhimanyu Easwaran (27) and Karan Lal, (23) coming in place of Kazi Junaid Saifi, got the visitors off to a fine start.
The duo batted positively to add a much-needed 50-run opening stand.
But the home side made a strong comeback dismissing Easwaran followed by his opening partner Lal in span of two overs to reduce Bengal to 51/2 in the 14th over.
Thereafter, it was a one-way traffic as incoming batters Anustup and Gharami showed their true class to combine superbly to take the game away from the home side.
MP bowlers ran out of steam as the batting duo, continuing their rich-form this season, went on the smash tons each to put the hosts in the back-foot on the opening day itself.
However, the home side got something to cheer at the end of a tough day by getting rid of Anustup followed by Gharami in the 83rd and 84th over respectively.
Skipper Manoj Tiwary (5) and Shahbaz Ahmed (6) kept their cool to take Bengal past 300-run mark as stumps were drawn in the 87th over of the day.
