Bowlers put Bengal in touching distance
of victory against Haryana

19th January 2023
Bengal bowlers led by Akash Deep (3-37), Ishan Porel (2-36) and Mukesh Kumar (2-53) came up with another dominant show to put their team just three wickets away from a famous victory against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium.
After posting a massive first innings score of 419 on a challenging Lahli pitch, Bengal bundled out Haryana for 163 in their first innings.
Following on, despite a strong start in their second innings, Haryana stare at an obvious defeat while struggling at 177/7 at stumps on Day 3 with 79 runs still behind with three wickets in hand.
Earlier in the day, following on, openers Yuvraj Singh (78) and Chaitanyan Bishnoi (55) got Haryana off to a flying start.
Bengal bowlers were desperate for an early breakthrough in the morning session but Bishnoi and Yuvraj stood firm to add a vital 129-run opening stand to reduce the deficit.
Despite the duo not willing to give up, Bengal kept bowling as per their plan.
The positive intent finally paid off for the visitors as Ishan got rid of set batter Bishnoi followed by new batsman Ankit Kumar (0) in span of three balls in the 50th over to reduce Haryana to 129 for 2 and bring a huge sigh of relief in the Bengal camp.
The double strike by Ishan opened the floodgates for the visitors as Mukesh and Akash Deep bowled ruthlessly from there on, picking up wickets at regular intervals to put the home side in a spot of bother at 177/7.
However, Sumit Kumar (8) and A Rana (0) remained unbeaten as bad light forced early stumps with only 69 overs bowled in the day.
