Bengal’s senior women’s team displayed an all-round show to outclass Assam by 8 wickets in a one-day trophy in Nagpur on Wednesday.
Batting first, Assam were bundled out for just 116 in 50 overs.
Saika Ishaque (4-13), Gouher Sultana (2-15) and Priyanka Sarkar (2-28) impressed with the ball for Bengal.
In reply, riding on a fine unbeaten 72 by skipper Mita Paul, Bengal chased the target down easily scoring 117/2 in 31.5 overs.
Earlier, Assam got off to a positive start but Bengal made a strong comeback into the match picking up wickets at quick succession to put Assam in trouble at 47 for 5.
Hiramoni Saika (21), Ruhina Pegu (26), Priyanka Boruah (22) all got off to good starts but the trio failed to convert it into big ones as Assam’s innings folded for a low score.
In reply, Bengal lost opener Ankita Chakraborty (12) in the 10th over.
But Mita led her team from the front with a match-winning knock. In her 97-ball innings, Mita smashed 10 boundaries.
She was well supported in the other end by Dhara Gujjar (19) and later on by Prativa (9 not out) as Bengal went over the line in style.
