India aim to seal series against Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI at Eden
11th January 2023
After a thumping win in the first ODI, a confident Indian team will aim to bag the series against Sri Lanka with a victory in the second match to be played at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.
The hosts put up a dominating show with the bat as they beat Sri Lanka by 67 runs in the first ODI in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Buoyed by the hot form of its top three batters, India will look to pile more misery on the opposition bowlers.
The star attraction for the match will be none other than Virat Kohli, who brought up his 73rd international century in the first ODI to help team post a massive total of 373/7.
The 34-year-old looked in sublime touch on Tuesday and took advantage of the dropped chances by the Lankan fielders to score another big one.
Besides Kohli, India skipper Rohit Sharma, who returned from injury, never looked uncomfortable against the Lankan bowlers.
The veteran batsman smashed 83 off just 67 balls along with Shubman Gill to give India a superb start.
In the middle order, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who also looked in good touch, will be key to India's chances once again on Tuesday.
In the bowling department, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj will lead the attack along with speedster Umran Malik.
Siraj looked terrific with the ball in the first ODI, specially in his opening spell. While the experienced Shami will look to remain consistent.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will heavily rely on their in-form skipper Dasun Shanaka.
Dasun was the lone fighter in their first ODI smashing an unbeaten 108 to give the visitors some hope of a comeback.
Besides their skipper, the other batsmen will be eagerly waiting to get runs under their belt and deny the home side a chance to bag the series.
The biggest improvement Lanka need to make is in their fielding department.
Couple of dropped catches in the last match did cost the team a lot.
Chris Silverwood will surely provide some pep talk prior to the match to pull the team up.
