6th January 2023
Bengal extended their unbeaten run in the Ranji Trophy campaign grabbing three crucial points after their Elite Group A clash against Uttarakhand ended in a draw at Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun on Friday.
After posting a challenging total of 387 in their first innings, Bengal bowled out Uttarakhand for 272 which helped them earn a vital first innings lead and three points from the match.
In their second innings, Bengal declared at 206/7, while Uttarakhand were 69 for no loss at stumps on Day 4.
With two wins and two draws from four matches so far, Bengal are currently placed in second spot in Group A with 19 points.
Earlier, resuming the final day from overnight score of 48/1, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sudip Kumar Gharami (72) played with a positive intent adding another 96 runs in the morning before Swapnil K Singh dismissed the talented youngster to reduce Bengal to 144/2.
Akash Deep, promoted up the order at No.4, scored a quick-fire 18 off 9 balls but his stay in the middle was shortlived.
Uttarakhand bowlers sensed the opportunity and made a comeback into match picking up wickets at regular intervals as Pradipta Pramanik (8), Shahbaz Ahmed (1), Abishek Porel (2), skipper Manoj Tiwary (4) all fell cheaply looking to add some quick runs.
Despite Bengal being reduced to 191/7, Easwaran held fort, looking comfortable right through his unbeaten innings of 82 as the visitors declared their innings thus handing a tough 300-plus target to Uttarakhand.
The home side, although began the chase positively with openers Avneesh Sudha (54 not out) and Jiwanjot Singh (14 not out), but the target was too tall a task for them.
