Bowlers put Bengal in driver’s seat against Uttarakhand

4th January 2023
Riding on a stupendous performance by the bowlers, Bengal were in total control at the end of Day 2 reducing Uttarakhand to 104/6 in their first innings in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A clash at Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun on Wednesday.
After putting up a challenging first innings total of 387, Bengal bowlers Pradipta Pramanik (2-17), Akash Deep (2-21) and Shahbaz Ahmed (2-34) displayed a superb effort with the ball as Uttarakhand were still 283 runs behind in their first innings with 4 wickets in hand.
Earlier, resuming their first innings from overnight score of 269/3, Easwaran and Manoj Tiwary (15) added 41 runs for the fourth wicket before the Bengal skipper fell cheaply.
Easwaran, who looked determined for a double ton, was unlucky to head back to the pavilion after a fantastic 165.
Incoming batsman Shahbaz (40 not out) made a valuable contribution at the end along with Akash Deep (13) and Abishek Porel (10) to help team breach the 380-run mark.
In reply, Uttarakhand received a body blow at the start of their innings as Shahbaz got rid of the openers Avneesh Sudha (4) and skipper Jiwanjot Singh (4) to leave the hosts at 17 for 2 inside six overs.
Despite getting the duo, Bengal bowlers didn’t hold back.
Pradipta and Akash Deep stepped up taking four quick wickets to leave the home side in deep trouble at 48 for 6.
From there on, Kunal Chandela (40 not out) and Akhil Singh Rawat (32 not out) didn’t panic, adding a much needed unbeaten 56-run partnership for the seventh wicket to end an eventful day.
