Bengal keep fighting as UP gather
vital lead in Ranji tie

Bengal put up a good fight but Uttar Pradesh gathered a crucial 151-run second innings lead at the end of Day 2 in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A clash at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Aksh Deep Nath (47 not out) and Rinku Singh (44 not out) remained unbeaten at the end of the day's play as UP reached 122/4 at stumps.
Ishan Porel impressed once again picking up two wickets while Akash Deep and Sayan Shekhar Mandal claimed one each.
Earlier, resuming the day from overnight score of 29/4, Bengal lost both Pritam Chakraborty (12) and Sayan (21) cheaply to have the home side in trouble at 55 for 6.
But incoming batsmen Abishek Porel (33), Manoj Tiwary (23) and Shahbaz Ahmed (21) bailed team out of trouble adding some crucial runs to the total.
But after the dismissal of the trio, Akash Deep (41) played a much-needed counter-attacking innings to help team cross the 150-run mark. But with the dismissal of Akash Deep, Bengal's innings folded for 169.
In reply, UP leading by 29 runs in their second innings, dealt double blow at the start as Ishan and Akash Deep dismissed Aanjaneya Suryavanshi (4) and Priyam Garg (0) to have the visitors struggling with two down with just 6 on the board.
Captain Karan Sharma (5) and Madhav Kaushik (19) too were back in the hut leaving UP at 40 for 4.
From there on, Rinku and Aksh Deep kept their cool and played some fine shots to add an unbeaten 82-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
