Bengal U-19 script big victory vs Mizoram

4th December 2022
Riding on a fantastic all-round performance, Bengal thumped Mizoram by an innings and 163 runs in the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Mizoram batsmen failed to deliver with the bat in both their innings as totals of 48 in their first and 99 in their second saw them go down to Bengal by a big margin. Bengal, on the other hand, impressed with the bat scoring 310/8 in their first innings.
Resuming the second day from overnight of 173/3, Bengal batsmen were clinical from the start.
Basudev Ghosal (52), Rahul Prasad (40) and Sukhmeet Singh (23) came up with crucial knock to help the home side cross the 300-run mark to gather a vital 262-run first innings lead.
In response, the visitors were in need of a special performance from their batsmen to save the match.
But Bengal bowlers were once again disciplined with their line and length troubling every Mizoram batsmen.
Mizoram openers C Vanlal T Hruaia (19) and Johan (49 not out) began the proceedings positively crossing the 50-run mark without losing a wicket.
But as the duo looked set in the middle, Sagen Murmu came in to dismiss Vanlal to open the gates for the home side.
The dismissal proved too costly for the visitors as they found it difficult to handle the Bengal bowlers, losing all nine wickets for just 48 runs.
Dilshad Khan (3-17), Rahul (3-25) and Sagen (2-16) were the pick of the bowlers for Bengal.
