3rd December 2022
Riding on a fantastic performance by the bowlers, Bengal bundled out Mizoram for just 48 runs in their first innings on Day 1 of the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Sagen Murmu (7-5) displayed an outstanding effort with the ball claiming seven wickets as the visitors were bowled out in 41.3 overs. Sayed Irfan Aftab (2-13) and Dilshad Khan (1-4) also chipped in with fine spells.
For Mizoram, K Vanrotlinga was the top scorer with 28 runs.
In reply, Bengal openers Sanjay Balmiki (70) and Sumit Nag (53) gave the home side a superb start.
The duo added a crucial 126-run opening stand to take team to a commanding position.
The visitors managed to put a check on the run flow by picking up three wickets at the end of the day but Bengal were in control of the match with their score at 173/3 at stumps with a vital lead of 125 runs.
Earlier, opting to bat, Mizoram batsmen found it extremely difficult to handle the new ball bowlers, as Bengal pacers ran though the top and middle order to leave the visitors in deep trouble losing half their side for just 19 runs.
Vanrotlinga was the only batsman who managed to add some crucial runs to the total as wickets at regular intervals folded their innings for just 48.
