Bowlers guide Bengal U-19 to superb win vs Chandigarh

29th November 2022
Riding on a fantastic performance by the bowlers, Bengal outclassed Chandigarh by 50 runs in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
Needing just six wickets to clinch the match on the fourth and final day, Bengal bowlers Sayed Irfan Aftab (4-53), Milind Mondal (3-28), Sukhmeet Singh (2-28) and Rahul Prasad (1-5) stepped up once again as Chandigarh batsmen could add only 84 on the day before being bundled out for 138 in their second innings.
The visitors, chasing a target of 189, looked nervous right from the start.
On the other hand, Bengal bowlers started the proceedings looking to complete the formalities as early as possible.
The home side got their first breakthrough when Rahul dismissed Paras for 15 to open the gates for a few more to follow.
Overnight batsman Ivraj Ranauta (19) and Adhiraj (6) too departed in quick succession to leave the visitors staring at defeat with their score at 100/7.
Lower-order batsman Aaryan Verma, who top-scored with 38 runs, looked in fine touch but he too departed, thanks to fine bowling by Sukhmeet.
From there on, Bengal bagged the final two wickets in no time to register a memorable victory at home.
Bengal's next match will be against Mizoram beginning on Saturday at the same ground.
