Bengal U-19 reach 226/8 against Chandigarh

26th November 2022
Bengal batsmen put up a brave fight to post 226/8 in 90 overs at stumps on Day 1 against Chandigarh in the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Sumit Nag (63), Chandrahas Dash (46) and Sayed Irfan Aftab (44 not out) helped team cross the 200-run mark at the end of the day’s play.
For Chandigarh, Neil Dhaliwal (5-60) was the pick of the bowlers.
Put into bat, openers Sumit and Milind Mondal got Bengal off to a cautious start.
But Milind (11) trying to take on the bowlers was dismissed in the 10 over with team at 20.
Incoming batsman Ronit Deb (5) too departed in a span of four overs to put Bengal in a bit of trouble at 33-2.
From there on, Sumit and new batsman Chandrahas kept their cool and played sensibly to bail them out of pressure zone.
But after the dismissal of Sumit in the 47th over, the home side once again crumbled under pressure to lose back to back wickets to have their score at 102/5.
Despite wickets at the other end, Chandrahas held his ground and played cautiously to not let his wicket slip away. Sanjay Balmiki (31 not out) gave him good support in the other end.
Although runs came at a slow pace, Bengal kept losing wickets at regular intervals. There were reduced to 167/8 in the 75th over.
With the team in a bit of bother, bowler Sayed stepped up with the bat, scoring a crucial knock along with Sanjay as the duo remained unbeaten at the end of the day’s play.
