Suvankar unbeaten 168 powers Town Club to 415/5

Suvankar Bal smashed a fantastic unbeaten 168 runs to power Town Club to 415/5 in 78 overs against Police Athletic Club at stumps on Day 1 of the CAB First Division League Group A match in SP School Ground in Kolkata on Friday.
Enroute his fine knock, Suvankar struck 27 fours and a six. He was well supported by another centurion Suprodip Debnath (105) and Sandeep Tomar (85).
In the day’s second match at the Deshbandhu Park Ground, Kolkata, openers Abhishek Raman and Abhisek Das struck centuries each as defending champions Bhowanipur Club reached 364/4 at stumps against Tapan Memorial Club.
Raman (138) and Das (136) added a 292-run opening stand to help team post a respectable total at the end of the opening day.
In the day’s third match at Bengal Cricket Academy in Kalyani, Poonish Mehta struck a brilliant century to help Paikpara Sporting Club reach 246/5 in 94 overs at stumps against Mohun Bagan AC.
Put into bat, Paikpara were reduced to 43/3 but Poonish (114 off 179 balls) and Dibya Majumdar (69 not out) held the innings firmly as the team reached a good total at the end of the day’s play.
In the day’s fourth match at Aditya Academy in Barasat, it was entirely a bowlers’ day as 17 wickets fell between Shambazar Club and Calcutta Customs Club.
Opting to bowl, Calcutta Customs bundled out Shambazar for just 84 in 26.4 overs, thanks to superb bowling effort by Suman Das (5-28) and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (4-35).
In reply, Calcutta Customs were reduced to 139/7 in 41 overs at stumps after a fine bowling effort by Suraj Singh which saw him claim six wickets.
In the day’s fifth match at JU 2nd Campus Ground, Salt Lake, a fine performance from the bowlers helped Barisha Sporting Club bowl out East Bengal club for 163.
Ankit Mishra (4-53), Preetam Biswas (3-11) and Anurag Tiwari (3-39) were the pick of the bowlers for Barisha Sporting.
For East Bengal, Amitoze Singh was the top scorer with 72 runs.
In reply, Barisha Sporting were 123/3 at stumps with Sayan Kumar Biswas unbeaten on 57.
