Sumit’s 101 keep Bengal U-19 in the game

14th November 2022
Riding on a fighting century by Sumit Nag, Bengal posted 320 and remained in the hunt though they conceded the first innings lead to Tripura by two runs which could prove crucial by the end of the match in the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy.
The star of the day was Sumit, who hit the Tripura bowlers to all parts scoring a fine 101 off 225 balls, which included 17 boundaries and one six in Kalyani on Monday.
His innings helped the home side close in on Tripura’s first innings total of 322.
In reply, Tripura, in their second innings, reached 10 for no loss at stumps on Day 3 with a slender lead of 12 runs and thus set up a thrilling fourth and final day’s play.
Earlier, resuming the day on 82/2, the home side played positively and Sumit looked in fine touch.
Tripura bowlers were consistent in their line and length but it was Sumit’s calm and composure which helped him win the battle.
Middle order batsmen Ronit Deb (43) and Shashank Singh (40) got off to good starts but couldn’t score big.
Milind Mondal (25) and Sagen Murmu (25) chipped in with some handy runs at the end.
