Gawtham’s 4 give Karnataka win

Gawtham took 4 wickets to help Karnataka beat Jharkhand by 5 runs in their first Vijay Hazare Trophy match today here  at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Winning the toss Jharkhand chose to field, restricting the opposition at 266 in 50 overs. For Karnataka Samarth R and Skipper Manish Pandey topped the scoring with 71 and 77 runs respectively.
Among the Jharkhand bowlers, Rahul Shukla topped the table bagging 4 for 45. He was backed by Varun Aaron, Monu Kumar, Anand Singh taking two wickets each.
Thereafter, coming out to bat, Jharkhand lost rhythm, getting reduced to 79 for 4, when Skipper M S Dhoni joined Saurabh Tiwary at the crease.
Both tried to give a fight back putting up a partnership of 81 runs, but that ended with the dismissal of Dhoni, bowled by Pradeep T, further reducing Jharkhand to 160 for 5.
Jharkhand, having lost half their side never looked to came back in the match, before the quick 28-run last wicket partnership between Rahul Shukla and Monu Kumar that took the match to the last over. But with Rahul getting run out, the match ended with Jharkhand losing by 5 runs.
On the other hand, Hyderabad beat Jammu & Kashmir by 29 runs in the match played at the Jadavpur University Ground, Salt Lake Campus.
Batting first Hyderabad scored 257 in 50 overs, which they defended successfully by restricting  Jammu & Kashmir at 228 in 49.3 overs. While, Tanmay Agarwal topped the batting of Hyderabad scoring 68 off 69 balls, among the bowlers Ravi Kiran and Mehdi Hasan took three wickets each.
In the other match played at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground, Kalyani, Services beat Saurashtra by 48 runs.
Chasing a target of 263, Saurashtra were bowled out at 215 in 39.4 overs.
While Nakul Verma topped the batting for Services scoring 124 off 132 balls, the bowling was topped by Suraj Yadav bagging 4 for 47.
