Bengal probables' pre-season training begin
3RD August 2022
Under the newly appointed head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla Bengal probables started their pre-season training at Eden Gardens indoor facility today.
The training session went on for almost five hours starting with warm-up session followed by batting and bowling skillset training under the guidance of Bengal head coach and assistant coach Sourashis Lahiri.
Bengal coach said: "The boys are very good as we started the indoor practice session with basic batting drills such as frontfoot and backfoot. They practised the hook and sweep shots with the help of dry and wet tennis balls as well as plastic balls. Bowlers did sessions for their spot bowling alongwith other basic drills."
"As leaving the ball is an art in cricket so I focused on this section. Today's session was around five and a half hours long. In the upcoming days the practice session will long more than 6 hours," he further added.
Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran spoke about the pre-season: "It was a good session. Ilwe worked more on our basics, was a good start. We'll start training as a group in the coming sessions. It was a good first day, there's more to look upto. There's always scope and areas to improve, we know where we left last season. We played good cricket last season but couldn't qualify for the final, we are all ready to work hard and do well in this season."
With two tournaments approaching before the start of the domestic season Bengal coaching staff are eager to use the available in best possible way.
Bengal Assistant coach Sourashis Lahiri said: "It was a fantastic session, the way we have started is good. We all know that we don't have much time left with tournaments and matches in between and this is the time to prepare. We'll make the best use of what time we llhave left before the five-month long season starts. Last season we played so well but there are areas to improve. We are planning to start early in the morning with rigorous training session, then enough break to recover and then skill training. As this is rainy season, we have to conduct our training sessions indoor which has 4 nets and as advised by LRS we have fixed six more under the gallery space. Spinners and pacers were practicing at the indoor and we have trained to adapt to the different situations."
"The boys are eager, everyone looked in great shape. Laxmi was a player with tough mentality in his playing days and to make the team more confident I think he's the best guy. We have got off to a great pre-season training today," he added.
