Bengal pile on more runs

7th June 2022
Sudip Kumar Gharami's swashbuckling 186, a stylish 117 by Anustup Majumder and another perfect partnership between experienced Manoj Tiwary and youngster Abhishek Porel powered Bengal to a mammoth 577/5 on the second day in their Ranji trophy quarterfinal match against Jharkhand in Bengaluru today.
Gharami who hit his maiden first-class ton for Bengal looked poised for a double ton till he went back off Rahul Shukla after Anustup's fuent innings came to end on 117.
Experienced campaigner Anustup Majumder said: "It always feels good to score runs for Bengal but at the same time I am very disappointed for not being able to convert my innings into a big one. The wicket was good, we were reading their bowlers well, should've scored more. It was a good delivery though. No one has thrown his wicket away, I think that's a very positive takeaway from our performance. Our batters are confident, we have put up a good batting show."
"The wicket will help the pacers. If we can put up a disciplined show with the ball, we'll dominate. Sudip has batted wonderfully, we have backed him when he was not getting much runs and he did justice to his talent in this game. Abhishek Porel has made impact from his very first match and he's doing the same again'" he added.
Fit again Abhishek Raman came back to complete his half-century before Manoj and Porel added 109 runs off the sixth wicket to take Bengal post 500.
Porel went back scoring a swift 68 while Manoj (54*) stayed unbeaten on the wicket along with all-rounder Shahbaz Ahamad (7*) at the end of the day's play.
