Sporting Union win First Division

In a nail-biting encounter Sporting Union emerged victorious by 2 runs against Calcutta Port Trust Sports Club in First Division relegation decider today at 22 Yards SP School ground.
Chasing 353 to win Calcutta Ports Trust despite having a shaky start recovered well from 76/3 as Sawan Singh played a crucial 160-ball 135 aided by Ravi Singh 91.
Sawan's gritty innings went in vain as needing 4 runs off the final delivery to win the Port Trust batter was run out by Sporting player Atanu Ghosh.
Earlier on the first day Tanujit Acharjee starred with a crucial ton for Sporting Union and was adjudged player of the match.
In second division championship play-off Bata Sports Club, Jorabagan, Excelsiors, Aurora Athletic, Vijay Sports Club, Cricket Club of Bhawanipore, Shibpur Institute and Burnpur Cricket Club entered quarterfinals.
Among notable performances of the day Cricket Club of Bhawanipore's Krishnendu Guha picked up 6 wickets to thrash Baranagar Sporting by 208 runs, Shibpur won by a mammoth 470 runs over National Athletic, Salman Khan was the star of the show with an unbeaten hundred as Burnpur emerged victorious against Ballygunge Sporting and Suman Dey with a six-for won the game for Bata.
