Bengal win two in a row
27th February 2022
Bengal beat Hyderabad by 72 runs to pick up their second straight win in the Ranji Trophy today.
CAB President Avishek Dalmiya congratulating the team on their back-to-back wins in Ranji Trophy first against Baroda and now Hyderabad said: "To win is always good, but to win in such dominant fashion is special. I would like to pat the boys for their steely jawed determination especially the way the fast bowlers have been doing their jobs. I also congratulate the entire coaching unit for instilling this belief and winning mentality in the boys."
CAB Hony Secretary Snehasish Ganguly lauding the Bengal team for their second straight victory said: "The team won convincingly and with enough daylight left. I urge the team to keep the winning momentum. It's a habit they should imbibe. I take this opportunity to congratulate the entire Bengal team, Arun Lal, Sourashis Lahiri and the support staff for their incisive planning and implementation of their strategy. They should continue to treat each match by merit.
Ritwick Roychowdhury's gritty innings deserves mention. Also kudos to the bowling unit who kept us in the match by chipping away at the rivals. Be it Mukesh Kumar in the first innings or Akash Deep in the second they have put their hands up. Shahbaz has also been fabulous with both bat and ball. Sayan Sekhar Mondal also did a great supporting act. One bad session can make all the difference, Ranji Trophy is so tough. So keep doing what you have been doing the last two matches."
Bengal scored 242 and 201 in the two innings while Hyderabad put up 205 in their first innings. Needing 238 in their second innings Hyderabad at stumps in their second innings yesterday were 16 for 3.
The writing was clear on the wall. Today they folded for 166 with Tilak Varma providing the lone resistance is with 90 runs.
This meant that the rest of the team were skittled out for just 77 runs. A lion's share of this bowling prowess in the second innings goes to Akash Deep who bowled with pace and sting, while Shahbaz wove a web of spin to entrap three Hyderabad batsmen.
Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz said: "Wicket was better to bat in the first innings. Abhishek Porel did well with the bat, I will work harder to convert my innings into big runs. All contributed for the team and we've registered a comfortable win, feels good. There was not much for the spinners on this wicket. I cane to bowl because Hyderabad had numbers of left-handed batters and got 3 wickets for my team."
"I am obviously enjoying my role in this side. I have been playing the role of an all-rounder for a long time now, always prepared to give my best for my team. I come to bat at seven for Bengal, it's always crucial spot and I am very happy that I am being able to perform well for Bengal. The team is upbeat, we are confident about our bowling and batting. We'll give everything to win the next," he added
Bengal now have 8 points from two matches.
