Bowlers win it on final day for Bengal
23rd December 2021
Bengal needed to bundle Hyderabad on the fourth day of Cooch Behar trophy to win the match after conceding first innings lead and bowlers ran riot through opponents' batting line up to bundle them for 145 runs to qualify for the knockouts.
Bengal declared on 383/9 in the second innings with a huge 296-run lead thanks to Rahul Chowdhury's gritty ton and skipper Abhishek Porel's dominating batting.
Bengal U19 coach Devang Gandhi said: "It was a team effort, commitment and character. It wouldn't have been possible without cohesive effort from the boys. Porel and Toufik have been contributing throughout the tournament but what was heartening to see was Rahul Chowdhury coming out under pressure and score a hundred which laid the foundation for a big lead in the second innings. Our fast bowlers contributed on a flat pitch, Suddharth Singh bowled a crucial spell. It was so heartening to see the boys came back hard after conceding the first innings lead.
Debopratim Halder deew the first blood by removing Aman Rao (21) to start the comeback while after removal of Aravelli Avanish (30) and Hyderabad skipper Vignesh Reddy (46) the collapse began.
Toufik Uddin took 4 wickets while Siddharth Singh bagged 3 as Bengal took rest 7 wickets for just 67 runs to take 6 points home.
