Bengal lose by VJD method

Bengal lost their second Vijay Hazare trophy match today by VJD method by 8 runs against Pondicherry today in Trivandrum.
In a rain curtailed match Bengal rode on Shahbaz Ahamad's blistering 85 not out to post a fighting 264/8 in their quota of overs and in reply Pondicherry were at 132/2 when the match was forced to stop due to rain.
After reducing Pondicherry to 42/2 thanks to Mukesh Kumar and Shahbaz's early strikes, Bengal's opponents stiched a 90-run partnership as Pavan Despande (62) P Dogra (41) remained unbeaten till the end to win the match by VJD.
Earlier Abhishek Das (8) and Kaif Ahamad went back quickly without contributing much while seasoned campaigner Sreevats Goswami made 45 and skipper Sudip Chatterjee scored 27.
Ritwik Roy Chowdhury added useful 32 while Shahbaz carried Bengal to a fighting total with 60-ball 85.
Subodh Bhati was the highest wicket-taker for Pondicherry with 3 for 70.
