Bengal bounce back in style

Bengal thrashed Services by 9 wickets to get back to the winning ways thanks to a dominating display by the bowling unit in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy today. Put to bat first Sevices were restricted to 90/8 as Bengal bowlers lassoed opponents' batters from the very beginning and never really loosen the noose. Skipper Sudip Chatterjee hit his second fifty of the tournament this season to help Bengal finish the match early in 10.5 overs. An elated Bengal captain Sudip said: "We suffered a narrow defeat in the last match so the next two were very important for us. This kind of dominating victory was needed and we all are very happy. The whole bowling unit performed really well, restricted opponents to a low total. Keeping the runrate high was our priority and we have finished the match early with a quick chase." "The spinners have done well. There was help from the wicket and they bowled in the right areas throughout the match to keep opponents batters under pressure. We are focused on the next match now and want to give our best," he added. Services lost opener Aanshul Gupta in the first ball as Abhimanyu Easwaran ran him out and after that the spinners showed their skills to remove opponents' batters in regular interval. After being reduced to 25/6 Services wicket-keeper Devender Lohchab made a patient 51-ball 34 to take the total to 90/8. Pradipta Pramanik took 2 wickets while Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahamad, Akash Deep, Karan Lal and Writtick Chatterjee picked up 1 wicket apiece for Bengal. While chasing Sudip made 28-ball 50 while Easwaran remained unbeaten till the end on 32. Bengal now have 12 points from 4 matches to top the table.
