22nd August 2021
Trials for Bengal U19 concluded today with 100 players participating at Eden Gardens indoor facility in the presence of chief coach Devang Gandhi and selectors Partho Sen, Avik Mitra, Kalyan Dhal, Devender Roy and Himadri Dutta.
Present at the trial were Joint Secretary Debabrata Das, Director Cricket Operations Joydeep Mukherjee, Spin Bowling Specialist Utpal Chatterjee and bowling coach Shib Shankar Paul.
Coach Devang said to CAB media post trials: "There were approximately hundred boys and there were some good talents. You have to keep in mind that due to the pandemic they didn't get a lot of practice, they were under lot of pressure but having said that there were a few good boys."
"Basically you have to prepare them for the bigger leagues and right from the outset the mindset should be to play for Bengal and we'll prepare them accordingly. It's huge difference between the first level players and U19, so my emphasis and endeavour would be to bridge that gap. If there's a constant supply of players for Bengal then my job is achieved," he spoke his approach to the new job.
