Jayojit, Prinan boost Kalighat's qualification chances
4th December 2020
Jayojit Basu and Prinan Dutta stiched 112-run partnership to help Kalighat register a much-needed 14-run victory against Town Club and move up to third position with 16 points in the points table in Bengal T20 Challenge today at Eden Gardens.
Town Club won the toss and put Kalighat to bat first. Openers Jayojit and Prinan gave Kalighat flying start with a 100-plus partnership as they managed to post 149/4 in their quota of 20 overs.
Jayojit made 51 (3x4, 2x6) off as many balls while Prinan scored 56 (6x4, 1x6) off 51 balls to frustrate Town bowlers as Ananta Saha, Aritra Chatterjee and Md Kaif bagged 1 wicket apiece.
When asked about the much needed win Prinan said: "We need this momentum. We were losing games in the last overs, we certainly did well there. For better start to the innings we made changes in the opening department today and very glad to win this encounter."
While chasing Kazi Junaid Saifi gave Town a good start with a quickfire 29-ball 41 along with skipper Avijit Singh's 32 but Kalighat pacers Satyaki Dutta removed the openers with consecutive deliveries to suddenly halt the chase for Town.
"We made changes in the opening pair, me and Prinann opened the innings and thankfully got 100-plus partnerships off the first wicket. Our target was to score 150-plus cause today's wicket was more friendly for the batters and I am very happy for this win," said another Kalighat half-centurion Jayojit.
Satyaki bagged 3 wickets for 31 runs while Amit Kuila picked up 2 leaking just 27 runs and restricted their opponents to 135/7.
