CAB defers player transfers

12th August 2020
The Transfer Committee of The Cricket Association of Bengal today held a meeting via video conferencing to discuss various matters pertaining to Player Transfers.
Subsequent to such meeting, the following were decided by the Association :

A) The window for transfer of players from 1st September 2020 to 15th September 2020 pertaining to 1st and 2nd Division Teams is being deferred in view of the prevailing pandemic situation and also taking into consideration various notifications issued by the Central and State Government whereby large gatherings are prohibited.

B) The President and the Hony. Secretary would monitor the situation on a fortnightly basis and take appropriate measures as soon as the situation becomes conducive to have the transfer exercises done and restrictions imposed by the Authorities are relaxed.

"We have decided to defer the transfer window for the time being considering the protocols imposed by the Authorities. The safety of the players is also important to us. However, having said that, we assure all the players that the Association would be monitoring the matter closely and take appropriate measures in the days ahead. The interest of the players and their future would always remain paramount to us" said CAB President Avishek Dalmiya, post the meeting that was held via video conferencing.
During the course of the Transfer Committee meeting, Presentation for preparation of online Transfer mechanism was given by the President. The house unanimously approved it in principle and said that further actions and trials required to make it foolproof be made. However, whether the same would be used for this season or from the following season would be discussed in due course.
It has been further agreed during the Transfer Committee Meeting that biometrics and digital signatures of players would be introduced from 2021-2022 season. The process for development of software would be initiated at the earliest. The Age Verification Cell would also be set up shortly in order to prevent age fraud at the grassroots.
CAB Secretary Snehasish Ganguly said: "Our Association President and myself will personally monitor the situation and decide from when the transfer season will commence. We also plan to take the entire process online in the times to come and finally introduce biometrics keeping an eye to the future."
