Bengal end C K Nayudu Trophy campaign on a high

16th February 2020
Bengal U23 team thrashed Himachal by an innings and 80 runs in Col C K Nayudu trophy match thanks to a disciplined bowling attack and superb first innings tons from Shakir Habib Gandhi and Agniv Pan.
With today's match Bengal's run in the tournament came to an end as the visitors are now at ninth position with 21 points from 8 matches.
Mohammed Kaif picked up total 8 wickets in the match while Sandipan Das and Pradipta Pramanik bagged 4 and 5 wickets respectively to bundle Himachal for 67 and 251.
Bengal coach Sourashis Lahiri said: "I am very proud of the way the boys have played and responded. This is a new team. They took their time and now they are settled. Considering the new players, condition I believe the boys performed well. After being National One Day champions we haven't qualified for the next round here but I am not disappointed. Because I believe in years to come this team will do really really well, even in this format as well. They will comeback stronger and do better for Bengal team in future."
"Kaif was not in the one day side but he did well here, Sandipan made a superb comeback from almost season-long injury. Suraj have showed off a lot of grit and skills. Our fast bowling department has performed really well," he added.
After a disappointing first innings the hosts did better in the second innings riding on gritty half-centuries from K Dev (76) and N Kanwar (69*).
"This is a new team. I believe four-day cricket is very challenging but for us the challenge was to set up this new team. It took a bit time especially to build a brand new bowling attack and they have settled down well now. The bowling attack crafted with Sandipan (Das), Md Kaif, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal and Pradipta (Pramanik) have grown up to be lethal on any kind of wicket," about the new Bengal biwkinf unit he added.
A proud coach but at the same time a responsible family man Sourashis also said: "I want to spend some quality time with my family for now. I need some time for myself also. It has been long 8 months for everyone and now we will take some rest and do self-assessment. Will talk with CAB President Avishek (Dalmiya), secretary Snehashih Ganguly and concerned people to discuss our way forward."
Resuming the third day on 50/3 Himachal were reduced to 113/8 before lunch and Dev added 126 runs off the ninth wicket with Kanwar.
