Bengal 135 runs away from crucial victory
6th February 2020
Bengal need more 135 runs to beat Rajasthan in a crucial Ranji Trophy Group A match in order to qualify for knockouts as the match goes into final day tomorrow in Jaipur.
Resuming the day on 156/8 Rajsthan lower order added more 45 runs to their second innings score thanks to T Haq and A Khan's crucial knocks before losing their wickets to Bengal spinners.
Bengal coach Arun Lal said: "We had a good start but the new ball started swinging a lot and that caused the problem. Easwaran is a class player and batted very well today. The moment a player like him with proven merit scores runs, he will be back in form."
Koushik has been batting very well in every match but I would've been happier if he could convert those in big scores. For tomorrow I will tell the boys to play tight cricket and make opponents work hard for your wicket," he added.
Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran along with Koushik Ghosh gave Bengal a strong start as the visitors amassed 115 runs pff the first-wicket partnership.
Easwaran went back scoring 62 while Koushik made 64 before Bengal lost Manoj Tiwary and Abhishek Raman quickly to get reduced to 153/4.
Experienced batters Anustup Majumder (20) and Sreevats Goswami (19) arrested the slide and stayed unbeaten till the end.
The Bengal skipper said: "We have started the chase pretty well today. Right now it's equal opportunity for both both teams. It's never easy to chase on fourth day but with the experience and the batters we have, we should get through."
For the hosts Singh continued hus good patch by taking 3 wickets whike Khan picked up 1.
