Anustup, Sreevats establish Bengal dominance

Bengal rode on Anustup Majumder's measured innings of class abundance to dominate the first day of Ranji Trophy match against Delhi at Eden Gardens today.
The experienced Bengal batsman stayed unbeaten on 94 while Sreevats Goswami played a crucial knock of 59 off 84 balls to help the hosts not only revive from 72/3 but to put up a big total of 286/5 on the scoreboard.
Anustup said: "It's a good day for us. We were at trouble at certain point time but my partnerships with Shree and Shahbaz helped us get back into the game."
"The first hour tomorrow is vital, bowlers will have the upper hand. If we can post 400-plus total, we will definitely put them under pressure," he added.
Abhishek Raman (9), Kazi Junaid Saifi (9) and skipper Manoj Tiwary (7) went back to the pavilion quickly while Koushik Ghosh smashed a gritty 46 off 122 balls to lay the foundation of the Bengal innings before being caught by Jonty Sidhu off Kulwant khejrolia.
Anustup came to bat after the Bengal skipper became Vikash Mishra's victim and stiched two crucial partnerships with Sreevats and young all-rounder Shahbaz Ahamad.
He added 117 runs with Sreevats to keep Delhi bowlers at the bay and steady the ship till the Bengal wicket keeper became Vikash Mishra's victim after scoring a superb 59.
The two experienced batters set the stage for a big score which was later very well utilized by Shahbaz who remained unbeaten on 39.
Vikash Mishra was the highest wicket taler among Delhi bowlers with 3 for 78.
