Magnificent Manoj lead Bengal dominance
19th January 2020
Experienced Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary played an extraordinary innings of unbeaten 156 runs to not only revive Bengal from early collapse but put the hosts in the driver's seat with a first day score of 366/5 against Hyderabad in Ranji Trophy today.
Bengal got off to a wobbly start after being reduced to 60/3 and Manoj stiched two very important partnerships of the match.
Manoj said: "It's one of my fav innings. will rate in as top seven. Five times double hudnred before this and this is also very special as it came in a crucial stage. I had to counter attack knowing that they were playing with only two pacers. I wanted to attack pretty early ans they were backfoot from start."
"We have not set any taret and we didnt expect to score so many runs on the first day. We have to score 500-plus if we want to bat once. In our dressing room we have Arun Lal and Mr. Chatterjee, the batting and bowling legends. When those two encourage from outside you have to respect and that's what i did."
The former Bengal captain added 112 runs with Anustup Majumder who smashed 59 and 190 runs with Sreevats Goswami stiched a 190-run partnership to keep Bengal dominance alive.
Sreevats went back on 95 missing out on a well-deserved century while Manoj stayed unbeaten till the end.
Kazi Junaid Saifi (27) impressed on his debut ĺtoday with his fluent batting skill while Manoj showed his experience with his patient yet explosive innings.
Manoj who completed his century with a six off Mehedi Hasan has smashed 15 boundaries and 3 sixes today to make opponent's bowlers life miserable.
