Bengal lose against Haryana
12th November 2019
After winning two matches in a row Bengal's first defeat of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy came against Haryana at BKC Ground in Mumbai today.
Bengal batters failed to perform well as they could amass 122/8 in their quota of overs after electing to bat first and Haryana chased that down losing 5 wickets.
Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran said to CAB Media: "We couldn't put up a good score. As a batting unit we have to take more responsibility, we need to be cooler. Not getting a good start affected the match. 145/150 would've been a fighting score on a wicket like this. Bowlers did a decent job today."
Earlier Bengal lost their top three batters in a span of four deliveries to get reduced to 37/3.
Sreevats Goswami was the highest scorer of the team with 17-ball 30 while Shahbaz Ahamad added crucial 26 runs to help Bengal post a fighting total.
While defending Akash Deep gave Bengal an early breakthrough by removing Chaitanya Bishnoi for 2 to reduce them to 7/1.
After that Akash bagged one more while Shahbaz picked up two wickets but Treyaksh Bali (23) and Rohit Sharma (28 not out) made sure Haryana stay close to the victory.
Sumit Chand (13) and Rahul Tewatia (17) added some quick runs later to help Haryana finish the match 17 balls left to play.
