Smog stops play at Kotla
5th November 2016
Due to bad light and over cast conditions, the first day of a Group-A Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Gujarat was called off at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi today.
The players finally returned to the hotel after waiting the whole day for the play to get started before the Umpires finally called the day off at 4:00 PM in the afternoon.
The condition grew due to the increasing air pollution in Delhi that made the city come stand still, with very little hope for a better situation tomorrow.
“It was a day lost. We wanted the game against Gujarat. They are one of the best sides in the tournament. But again you don’t have control over the weather,” said skipper Manoj Tiwary.
Asked if any play will be possible tomorrow he said, “There was no visibility. It was honestly too dark today. I think it is difficult for the condition to improve tomorrow. But I would definitely hope the condition improves and we get a game.” he said.
