First day's play washed out at Eden Gardens
5th November 2016
Inclement weather and incessant rain over the last two days washed out the first day’s play of a Group-B Ranji Trophy match between Assam and Saurashtra today at the Eden Gardens here.
The rain is caused by a low pressure trough over the Bay of Bengal. There is more bad news with the Meterological department forecasting another 48 hours of rain.
The players returned to the hotel after the umpires' decision of calling off the day’s play at 11:30 AM in the morning.
“It is raining for last 48 hours. But the pitch is still ready forplay. The problem has been with the outfield that has gone wet. No play will be possible tomorrow if it rains like this.
For the play to commence the ground needs to dry up and for that you need a bright sunshine,” said pitch curator Sujon Mukherjee.
