Bengal U23 qualify for natl knockouts

The Bengal U23 team today qualified for the first U23 National Onedayers held in Jharkhand when they beat the hosts by 7 wickets.
While Bengal beat Jharkhand, Tripura and Assam, they lost to Odhisa who qualified as the top team.
Batting first Jharkhand made 155 restricted by Raju Haldar 3/26 and Kazi 3/32. Amit Quila also bagged 2 for 32 in 8 overs.
In reply Bengal made156 in 31 overs losing 3 wwickets Abhimanyu Easwaran made a fine 48 while Avijit Singh, who returned to the U23 fold after an year, made 53.
Talking about the meet, coach Sourashis Lahiri said; "The team will be highly motivated by the achievement. This is the first time this meet is happening. To qualify for the knockouts is no easy task. But the boys did exceptionally well."
Asked about the finds in the tournament he said U17 leggie Prayash Roy Burman is a real find. "It requires great temperament and maturity to be suddenly playing an U23 meet especially when you are ao young."
He also praised Tanmoy Pramanik's alround abilities and Avijit Singh for making a successful comeback.
"I would also like to mention offspiner Rju Haldar, pacer Ananta Saha and batsman Subhankar Ball for their commitment and success in the meet," Sourashis said.
The Bengal team will head for Kanpur where play the knockout phase.
